IT Asset Management Intern

Arlington County is an exciting, innovative local government entity located in Northern Virginia. They are seeking highly motivated individuals for one-year internships, offering hands-on learning opportunities in critical areas of local government initiatives. The role focuses on IT Asset Management, providing support in managing IT assets and configurations under the mentorship of senior staff.

Responsibilities

  • Performing daily and long-term operational and strategic management of hardware and software;
  • Applying a continuous improvement approach in enhancing the strategies employed in technology spending, as well as in tracking County assets within the Configuration Management Database (CMDB) throughout their lifecycle;
  • Ensuring effective management of the CMDB, Software Asset Management (SAM), and Hardware Asset Management (HAM) databases and that the content contained is accurate;
  • Providing KPI/Metric information and standardized reporting on a scheduled basis together with unscheduled reporting requested by management;
  • Participating in various projects such as providing support to Service Delivery, Infrastructure, and Finance;
  • Creating and gaining buy-in for plans to drive targeted adoption efforts, including but not limited to: communication plans, stakeholder engagement plans, training plans, defined outcomes and success metrics; and
  • Taking part in and/or coordinating with other IT Service Management processes, or as required, perform as a backup to maintain operational activities.

Qualification

Required

  • Recent, 2024 And/or 2025 College Graduates Earning Either a Bachelor’s Or a Master’s Degree in The Area Of Consideration Prior To The Start Date Of The Internship Must Have
  • No significant professional-level work experience (less than one year) in the internship field;
  • Applicants who are currently enrolled in a Master’s degree program related to the internship must not have significant professional-level work experience in the internship area and must be available to work during designated hours.
  • Any time lapse between earning degrees may not include significant professional-level work experience.
  • Degree Requirements: Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Management Information Systems, Business Administration with an IT focus or related discipline.
  • Applications will be accepted from candidates graduating with an undergraduate degree no later than August 31, 2025 and from candidates currently pursuing a Master's Degree in their field as described above.
  • A reliable means of transportation to and from the office is highly encouraged.
  • This is a full-time in office position (40 hrs/week) M-F between 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Background Check: A pre-employment criminal records check will be conducted. It may include checks of the following: criminal record, driving record, education, professional licensure, and credit history. You may be required to sign a release authorizing the County to obtain your background information.

Preferred

  • G.P.A. of 3.0 or above is preferred and applicants may be asked to provide certified official transcripts.
