Technical Specialist Intern 2026 (Monroe, LA)

As a Technical Specialist Intern, you will gain professional experience by working on client projects, deepening your knowledge in programming, application lifecycle, system management, and cloud platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in identifying, analyzing, and documenting program operational characteristics, gaining valuable insights into coding and cybersecurity
  • Shadow key stages of application implementation — from requirements definition to design, development, testing, and data migration — enhancing your understanding of the full lifecycle
  • Contribute to essential activities such as system configurations and management tools, including backup and recovery processes, while strengthening your skills and supporting system integrity
  • Engage in hands-on experiences with cloud platforms and foundational concepts in data science and AI ethics
  • Participate in the development and execution of test groups, including automation and test cases, and present your findings for a well-rounded internship experience

Qualification

Required

  • Currently pursuing a university degree with a track-record of academic success… (add any required education/geo requirements to this bullet point)
  • Strong Interpersonal skills that enhance collaboration and relationship building, while also managing dynamic workloads in an agile environment
  • Have initiative and passion to actively seek new knowledge and improve skills while embracing a growth mindset to assimilate diverse viewpoints
  • Demonstrate leadership experience and ability to communicate effectively through active listening; while also be willing to adapt and have a readiness to take ownership of tasks and challenges
  • Knowledge of basic AI concepts, ethics, methodologies, and basic data science concepts
  • Minimum Required Education: High school diploma and active enrollment in a higher education degree program in a relevant field
  • Sponsorship: IBM will not provide visa sponsorship for this position. Eligible candidates must not require sponsorship now or in the future to be considered
  • Required Work Location: These positions, anticipated to start in 2026, will be based at the Monroe, Louisiana Client Innovation Center
  • Candidates must be local to their assigned Client Innovation Center location or willing to relocate prior to the start date at their own expense
  • On average, employees are expected to work on-site at the local IBM office at least three days per week
  • While this role typically involves minimal business travel, candidates should be willing to travel up to 100% if required, depending on work assignments

Preferred

  • Basic understanding of software development life cycle (SDLC) processes, including foundational principles of quality engineering
  • Familiarity with cloud computing concepts and introductory experience in software development
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic, technology-driven consulting environment
