Leidos is seeking a Data Pipeline / Splunk Engineering Intern to join their team in support of the SMIT contract for the U.S. Navy. The successful candidate will support data ingestion, transformation, and analytics pipelines, providing hands-on experience in data engineering and Python development within a mission-critical environment.
Responsibilities
Support development and maintenance of data pipelines that ingest, transform, and deliver data to Splunk and analytics platforms
Write and maintain Python scripts to process log, metric, and event data
Assist with data validation, normalization, and enrichment to improve data quality and usability
Support onboarding of new data sources from infrastructure, applications, and network systems
Assist with building dashboards and visualizations that consume pipeline-produced data
Perform analysis, trending, and exploratory data analysis to identify insights and anomalies
Collaborate with Splunk developers, SREs, and operations teams to understand data requirements
Participate in Agile ceremonies including daily scrums, sprint planning, and retrospectives
Contribute to backlog items, technical documentation, and process improvements
Work with a geographically distributed (remote) team
Qualification
Required
Enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program in Computer Science, Data Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or related field
Experience with Python programming
Coursework or hands-on experience with data processing or data pipelines
Familiarity with structured or semi-structured data (e.g., JSON, CSV, log files)
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to work collaboratively and learn in a fast-paced technical environment
Holds or has ability to obtain a secret Level security clearance
US citizenship required
GPA of 3.0 or higher
Preferred
Exposure to Splunk or other log analytics / observability platforms
Experience with data visualization tools or libraries (e.g., Splunk dashboards, matplotlib, Plotly, Power BI, Tableau)
Familiarity with REST APIs and data ingestion patterns
Exposure to Linux environments or command-line tooling
Experience with version control systems such as Git
Familiarity with Agile development and tools such as Jira or Azure DevOps
Interest in data engineering, site reliability engineering (SRE), or observability platforms
Security+ certification or interest in pursuing DoD-aligned certifications
