Grocery Outlet is the nation’s largest extreme value retailer, dedicated to providing customers with brand-name groceries at deep discount prices. They are seeking a motivated Data & AI Summer Intern to join their team, where interns will work on real-world projects, supporting analytics initiatives and collaborating with data engineers and scientists.
Responsibilities
Collect, clean, and analyze structured and unstructured data.
Perform exploratory data analysis (EDA) to identify patterns, trends, and opportunities.
Build dashboards and visualizations using tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or Looker.
Support the development and testing of predictive models (regression, classification, clustering, etc.).
Help evaluate model performance using statistical and ML metrics.
Assist in building prototypes using Python, SQL, or cloud-based ML services (AWS, Azure, GCP).
Explore Generative AI use cases, including prompt engineering and LLM-based prototypes.
Develop or extend data pipelines using Python, PySpark, or SQL.
Work with cloud data platforms (Snowflake, BigQuery, Databricks, or similar).
Support data quality and data governance activities.
Participate in brainstorming sessions to identify new Data & AI opportunities.
Assist with documentation, including model explanations, data dictionaries, and analytics artifacts.
Present findings and recommendations to team members and leadership.
Qualification
Required
New Graduate, Rising Senior or Master’s Student enrolled in an accredited program as of June 2026.
Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, or related field.
Able to work from the Emeryville office Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Experience with Python, R, and SQL.
Familiarity with machine learning concepts and data visualization tools.
Excellent communication and collaboration capabilities.
Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
Coursework or projects in AI/ML, deep learning, or NLP.
Exposure to tools such as Jupyter Notebooks, Git, or MLflow.
Interest in GenAI, LLMs, or applied AI applications.
