The Data Science Intern will develop data pipelines and analytical tools, support data extraction and modeling, and deliver actionable insights in collaboration with data scientists and cross-functional teams.
Responsibilities
Help Develop pipelines that extract significant features from key data sets
Build custom analytical tools
Contribute to automated scripting and analysis for larger software packages
Support the team to perform data extraction, cleaning, analysis and deliver actionable insights
Contribute to feature selection and development of machine learning models to uncover value of data
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand their needs and perform Ad hoc analysis
The candidate will work closely with Data Scientists on multiple data analysis use cases
Upon the completion of this internship, the intern is required to present their accomplishments and project summary to the leadership team
Qualification
Required
Must be pursuing Engineering, Mathematics, Data Science, Computer Science, or a related field degree
Must currently be enrolled in a Bachelors (3rd year or later), who is fulfilling a graduation requirement for their degree

2+ years collaboration in a team setting at school or work
Course work in mathematics and statistics
Course work in computer programming or data science
Previous project experience with data analysis and modelling
Ability to review coding manuals to learn new syntax independently
Ability to review and understand the purpose of existing scripts
Ability to create reports/plots, analyze trends, and provide insights
Proficiency in Python or R for data analysis and machine learning
Familiarity with SQL for data querying and manipulation
Robust knowledge and experience with statistical methods
Demonstrated analytical, multi-tasking, problem solving, organizational, and planning skills
Clear communication skills and ability to work well in a team environment
Experience with fundamental technologies in a Microsoft environment: Windows OS, Office 365, etc
Will sit, stand, or walk short distances for up to 12 hours per day
Will climb stairs or steps on a frequent basis
Will lift up to 58 pounds on an occasional basis, according to work instruction
Will lift up to 37 pounds on a frequent basis
Will push or pull up to 50 pounds of force on an occasional basis
Will push or pull up to 37 pounds of force on a frequent basis
Required to use hands to grasp, lift, handle, carry or feel objects on a frequent basis
20/40 vision in each eye separately and both eyes (with or without correction), the ability to distinguish between red, yellow, and green and peripheral vision >70 degrees is required
May reach above shoulder heights and below the waist on a frequent basis
May stoop, kneel, or bend, on an occasional basis
Ability to wear personal protective equipment is required (including, but not limited to: steel-toed shoes, cut-resistant gloves, jackets, aprons &/or arm guards, safety glasses or goggles, hearing protection & respirators) as a condition of employment and continued employment (requires little or no facial hair)

Course work in computer programming or data science. (Python scripting language and SQL preferred)
