Valero is the world’s largest independent refiner, seeking energetic and motivated students for their Intern Program. The Data Analytics and Automation On-Going Intern will gain practical experience in data analytics, focusing on data extraction, modeling, and analysis to develop competencies for success in a business environment.
Responsibilities
Assists in the design and development of methods for extracting, modeling, and analyzing data (e.g., data structures, scripts, and Robotic Process Automation) for continuous monitoring of key risk indicators, data driven risk assessments, real-time reporting, and/or automated controls testing for Internal Audit (IA) and respective business partners
Participates in proof-of-concept efforts to assess potential new IA analytics processes, functionalities, and tools to continue the evolution of IA’s data analytics and automation environment
Collects, interprets, and compiles data to complete comprehensive analysis through the use of various applications (e.g., Microsoft Power BI, Python, Alteryx, Oracle, SQL, VB Script, PowerShell) and provides root cause analysis for issues identified during internal audits and advisory engagements where applicable
Creates and maintains technical documentation to support analysis and automation processes
Assists with the design and development of Power BI dashboards
Qualification
Required
Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree (or higher) in Data Analytics or related field required
Graduation dates of May 2027 through May 2028 required
Able to work 20-25 hours per week during the Fall/Spring semesters required
Able and willing to work on-site and in-person, required
Preferred
Overall GPA of 3.0 (or higher) on a 4.0 scale preferred
Microsoft Office applications and database application experience preferred
Strong analytical, communication, and human relations skills preferred
