Summer Intern - CPA

This 11-week internship provides students with hands-on experience in accounting, financial reporting, tax, controls, and audit within a global financial services organization, while preparing for future CPA and finance careers.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to quarterly and annual reporting processes, including GAAP, Statutory, and IFRS deliverables
  • Support management reporting, financial analysis, and preparation of external disclosures such as press releases and Management’s Discussion & Analysis
  • Assist with tax provision and returns across the John Hancock complex
  • Partner with the Controls Center of Excellence to enhance risk assessments, key controls, and governance processes
  • Participate in internal audit activities to assess the design and effectiveness of governance, risk, and controls
  • Engage in process improvement and automation initiatives within Wealth and Asset Management Accounting & Reporting
  • Participate in professional development events, networking opportunities, and community volunteer activities throughout the program

Qualification

Required

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • Strong academic performance: commitment to CPA certification post-graduation preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment

Preferred

  • Prior internship, co-op, or work experience in finance, accounting, or a related field
  • Knowledge of financial reporting standards (GAAP, IFRS, Statutory)
  • Familiarity with audit or risk management practices
  • Demonstrated initiative and leadership through campus involvement or prior roles
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to build relationships across teams
