Manulife is a global financial services organization offering an 11-week internship within its John Hancock division. The role provides hands-on experience supporting accounting, financial reporting, tax, controls, audit, process improvement, and automation initiatives while preparing students for future CPA and finance careers.
Responsibilities
Contribute to quarterly and annual reporting processes, including GAAP, Statutory, and IFRS deliverables
Support management reporting, financial analysis, and preparation of external disclosures such as press releases and Management’s Discussion & Analysis
Assist with tax provision and returns across the John Hancock complex
Partner with the Controls Center of Excellence to enhance risk assessments, key controls, and governance processes
Participate in internal audit activities to assess the design and effectiveness of governance, risk, and controls
Engage in process improvement and automation initiatives within Wealth and Asset Management Accounting & Reporting
Participate in professional development events, networking opportunities, and community volunteer activities throughout the program
Qualification
Required
Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
Preferred
Strong academic performance: commitment to CPA certification post-graduation preferred
Prior internship, co-op, or work experience in finance, accounting, or a related field
Knowledge of financial reporting standards (GAAP, IFRS, Statutory)
Familiarity with audit or risk management practices
Demonstrated initiative and leadership through campus involvement or prior roles
Collaborative mindset with the ability to build relationships across teams
