The Internal Audit Intern will support audit engagements by evaluating business processes, risks, and controls, while using data analytics, artificial intelligence, and automation to improve audit effectiveness and processes. The intern will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and contribute insights and recommendations for management and stakeholders.
Responsibilities
Support high-impact audit engagements that evaluate key business processes, risks, controls, and strategic initiatives across Freddie Mac
Utilize data analytics, AI tools, and automation techniques to improve audit effectiveness and efficiency
Analyze data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for process improvement
Collaborate with audit professionals across multiple disciplines, including business, technology, quantitative risk, and operational audit teams
Develop an understanding of data-rich business environments and how technology supports risk management and governance
Contribute to the development of recommendations and insights that can be presented to management and stakeholders
Participate in efforts to automate audit activities and enhance existing audit processes. Approximately 70% of the role's future focus is expected to involve automation and technology-enabled auditing
Build relationships across the organization while learning about key business functions, associated risks, and internal controls
Engage in continuous learning related to emerging technologies, AI applications, and data analytics within the audit profession
Qualification
Required
Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, Business Management, Accounting, Finance, Management Information Systems, Business Administration, or a related field
Expected graduation date of December 2027 – May 2028
Interest in data analytics, artificial intelligence, automation, risk management, or auditing
Strong curiosity and a desire to understand how businesses, technology, and risk management intersect
Critical thinking and analytical problem-solving skills
Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
Ability to ask thoughtful questions and proactively research solutions
Interest in leveraging AI and automation to improve business processes and outcomes
Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders
Strong attention to detail and comfort working with data-rich environments
Adaptability and eagerness to learn new technologies, tools, and concepts
A proactive mindset with a commitment to continuous improvement and innovation
Preferred
Experience with or exposure to data analysis tools such as Power BI, Python, SQL, or similar technologies is preferred
Understanding of business processes, technology, and data-driven decision-making is a plus
