The Intern - Commodity Risk Management will support the Energy & Agriculture risk management team by researching clients, analyzing commodity market exposure and risks, monitoring trading activities, and contributing to forecasting, analytics, and risk mitigation strategies.
Responsibilities
Assists consultants in researching and contacting prospective energy and agriculture clients, and helps prepare materials that educate them on commodities trading and risk management
Helps analyze individual client operations to determine market exposure, price sensitivity and financial risks across energy and agricultural commodities
Conducts and learns market analytics, including fundamentals, technicals and hedge decision tools
Learns how risk management processes and functions are assessed and helps monitor trading risks and identify underlying risk exposure
Contributes to fact-based risk mitigation and margin enhancement strategies for energy and agriculture clients under the guidance of a senior consultant
Observes the execution of futures, options and swaps that support energy and agricultural commodity risk management strategies
Helps maintain and analyze risk reports pertaining to trading activities
Assists with analysis and reconciliation of positions and P&L reported by the trading team
Builds working knowledge of energy and agricultural futures and options contract specifications, delivery mechanics, basis and spread relationships
Supports monitoring of trading activities and exposures to help ensure they remain within approved policies and limits
Assists in preparing and running econometric models for fundamental energy and agricultural commodity forecasting and analysis, and presents findings from an assigned market project to the desk
Learns and contributes to the team's technology tools and client-facing software systems, including data pipelines, dashboards, market and hedge analytics applications, and AI-assisted workflows; we are a technology-forward desk and interns are expected to bring ideas for automation, better analytics and product improvements

Qualification
Required
Demonstrated interest in energy or agricultural commodity markets through coursework, prior internships, or farm, ranch or energy industry experience; Series 3 licensing is not required for the internship
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft based applications
Excellent customer service and verbal and written communication skills

Pursuing a bachelor's degree from an accredited university in a relevant program and graduating between December 2027 and August 2028 (entering penultimate year of university)
Available for a June 2027 start date for an 8 – 10-week program
Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (preferably Excel)
Must be authorized to work in the US for any employer

Practical experience applying AI tools (large language models, machine learning, or generative AI) to market research, data analysis, forecasting or workflow automation is a strong plus, as is the curiosity to test new AI capabilities and share what works with the desk
Subject to business performance and recommendations of management, this role may be eligible to participate in an incentive compensation plan.
