American Water is a water and wastewater utility company offering an internship in corporate development. The Finance Intern will support acquisition modeling and financial analysis for potential water and wastewater system acquisitions, while gaining exposure to municipal accounting, valuations, due diligence, project management, and acquisition processes.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will also learn how municipalities and regulated utilities’ accounting standards differ from typical corporate accounting, gaining insight into unique financial reporting and analysis practices
The candidate will collaborate with the Corporate Development team on various types of financial analysis related to potential acquisitions of water and wastewater systems
Typical duties are diverse and tailored to the student’s education and experience level, assignments may include performing financial analyses using Microsoft Excel; conducting research on municipal financials; preparing presentation materials using PowerPoint; and supporting the development of internal templates and standards for corporate development processes
The candidate may also collaborate with other functions within the Business, including Valuations and Due Diligence, to gain exposure to an acquisition’s initial evaluation process
Depending on the candidate’s background, duties may also include learning project management skills, assisting in the preparation and review of acquisition models and supporting documentation, and developing materials for training programs
