Bowhead Specialty is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Actuary Intern to support their actuarial team. This internship provides hands-on experience in data analysis, financial modeling, and risk assessment within the insurance or financial services industry.
Responsibilities
Assist in analyzing data to evaluate risk and support pricing, reserving, and forecasting activities
Support the development and maintenance of actuarial models and financial projections
Perform data validation, cleansing, and preparation for actuarial analysis
Assist in preparing reports, presentations, and documentation for internal and external stakeholders
Work with large datasets using tools such as Excel, SQL, R, or Python
Support experience studies and trend analysis to inform business decisions
Collaborate with cross-functional teams such as underwriting, finance, and product development
Conduct research on industry trends, regulatory requirements, and actuarial methodologies
Qualification
Required
Pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Finance, Economics, or related field
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; familiarity with programming languages (e.g., Python, R, SQL, VBA) is a plus
Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
Strong written and verbal communication abilities
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
Preferred
Progress toward actuarial exams (Exam P, FM, or equivalent) is preferred
Knowledge of actuarial concepts such as probability, financial mathematics, and risk modeling
Familiarity with insurance products (life, health, property & casualty)
Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau)
Hands-on actuarial experience in a professional setting
Mentorship from experienced actuaries
Exposure to real-world business problems and decision-making
