National Grid is a company focused on powering progress towards a greener future. They are seeking interns for their Gridtern Program, which offers college students practical experience in various departments related to energy, technology, and innovation during the summer of 2026.
Responsibilities
Intern responsibilities will vary based upon your area of interest and department placement.
As a Gridtern, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the accuracy and reliability of simulation results, which are an essential part of the development and training of Gas System Operators in New York and Massachusetts.
You will also work independently to collate and analyze large datasets using a variety of simulation tools, methods, and formats to support the department’s decision-making process.
As a Gridtern, you will contribute to projects that improve pipeline safety and compliance while building valuable analytical and professional skills.
You’ll help integrate artificial intelligence (AI) and other tools into workflows that enhance project management, risk assessment, and data visualization.
You’ll also assist in refining our Power BI dashboards to increase transparency and engagement and support the development of AI-powered processes that forecast delays, flag risks, and recommend schedule improvements.
As a Gridtern, you’ll get hands-on experience with modern tools like backend APIs, React front-end interfaces, and real-time data streams.
This role will allow you to see how ideas are turned into features, from brainstorming and design all the way through development and deployment, while working side by side with various engineers.
You will also gain hands-on experience with AI initiatives, including computer vision and other emerging technologies, helping to create innovative processes that deliver real value to the organization.
Qualification
Required
Availability to start on the program start date, June 15, 2026, and work full-time (40 hours a week) for the duration of the summer
Must be registered as a full-time student and continue your education full-time through the Fall 2026 semester
Pursuing a Bachelor’s, or Master’s degree
Majoring in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Information Systems, Business Analytics, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Data Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics or related majors.
Have accumulated 18 or more credits and be at least 18 years of age
Possess work authorization that does not now or in the future require sponsorship of a visa for employment authorization in the United States (including CPT & OPT)
Some Gridtern positions will require a valid US Driver’s license with a safe driving history that complies with National Grid’s Safe Driver policy. This qualification will be specified in the department specific Gridtern role(s) descriptions at point of interview
