Davenport University is a long-standing institution in Grand Rapids, dedicated to providing quality education. The Communications Assistant will support the Marketing Communications department by performing clerical tasks and assisting with various public relations, communications, and marketing projects.
Responsibilities
Assist with writing various communications including university-wide emails, online internal communications (DU Hub), quarterly magazine (DU Review) social media (using Sprout Social), communication plans and other PR-related materials.
Assist with photography and video needs.
Assist with organization and maintenance of online photo library using Flickr.
Generate reports, memorandums, correspondence, presentation materials, spreadsheets, graphics and other materials using various software programs, especially Microsoft Office.
Provide graphic design support as needed.
Interview students, staff, faculty, alumni and donors as necessary to obtain information for potential stories to share across university platforms
Assist with special events and functions including photography & arrangements as needed (may include some nights & weekends)
Handle documents and maintain appropriate confidentiality
Provide GREAT customer service, anticipating and exceeding the needs of our customers
Demonstrate and promote the University Cultural Values
Understand and abide by all external and internal regulations and policies. This includes NCAA, GLIAC and national affiliations associated within athletics or other role specific regulations.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualification
Required
High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours as an undergraduate student or 3 credit hours as a graduate student while meeting the standards of academic progress.
Demonstrated ability to work accurately and effectively with computerized data systems (PC and Apple), emphasis on Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Wordpress and Drupal.
Understand and use social media in a professional manner (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, etc.).
Excellent interpersonal skills that transcend diverse audiences; communicating to university customers with positive attitudes toward change, confidentiality and conflict resolution.
Demonstrated motivational and problem solving capabilities with a high degree of integrity, ethics, and dedication to the mission of the university.
Business office environment. Prolonged sitting and standing. Use of computer and telephone (eye and hand strain).
Some travel between locations may be required (own transportation). No regular lifting requirements, occasional lifting up to 35 pounds.
Preferred
Marketing major preferred.
Some experience with photo and video editing software preferred.
Experience in office setting preferred but not required.
Knowledge of basic HTML a plus.
