National Grid is a company focused on powering progress towards a greener future. They are offering a Gridtern Program for current college students to gain practical experience in various departments related to energy, data science, and software engineering during the summer of 2026.
Collaborate to complete a specific project by working directly with multiple teams of stakeholders to understand and address their analytic needs
Partnering with Data Engineering to identify, extract, prepare, and integrate data sets ranging from spreadsheets to big data
Employing advanced analytics, machine learning, and statistical methods for predictive and prescriptive modeling, forecasting, and simulations
Communicating modeling approaches, results, and business outcomes
Explore the complete sales process, document it, and assist with any required technical modifications in Salesforce
Generate Salesforce reports and dashboards as needed while developing an understanding of architectural solutions and relevant integrations
Assume responsibilities as a Scrum Master or Product Owner as we adopt agile delivery practices
Gain practical experience in statistics, exploratory data analysis, modeling, and emerging technologies like generative AI
Actively participate in collaborative initiatives such as knowledge-sharing sessions and innovation labs
Support the coordination team in developing new reporting tools and dashboards, as well as conducting advanced data analysis
Provide suggestions for enhancing operational efficiency
Assist the team by monitoring suspected cyber-attacks through technical analysis to understand, quantify, and anticipate the actions of threat actors
Collaborate closely with various security and Group IT teams to ensure the ongoing success of our organization’s digital data network
Gain hands-on experience with real-world data, enhancing your analytical skills and contributing to impactful energy system projects
Analyze diverse datasets affecting load consumption, assist in developing forecasting models, and create data visualizations to communicate forecast results
Support monitoring and evaluating forecast variance to ensure accuracy and continuous improvement
Collaborate closely with our engineers on the day-to-day work of planning, designing, and implementing software solutions
Qualification
Required
Availability to start on the program start date, June 15, 2026, and work full-time (40 hours a week) for the duration of the summer
Must be registered as a full-time student and continue your education full-time through the Fall 2026 semester
Pursuing a Bachelor’s, or Master’s degree
Majoring in Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Applied Analytics, Meteorology, Engineering, Operation Research, Data Science, Computer Science, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, Information Systems, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, Business Analytics, Computational Science, Environmental Science, Physical Science, Sustainability, Information Technology or related majors.
Have accumulated 18 or more credits and be at least 18 years of age
Possess work authorization that does not now or in the future require sponsorship of a visa for employment authorization in the United States (including CPT & OPT)
Some Gridtern positions will require a valid US Driver’s license with a safe driving history that complies with National Grid’s Safe Driver policy. This qualification will be specified in the department specific Gridtern role(s) descriptions at point of interview
