Delta Dental of Michigan is seeking a Data Science Intern to join their team. The intern will collaborate with the Data Science team to develop statistical models and machine learning algorithms, analyze healthcare data, and communicate findings to stakeholders.

Analyze, visualize, and extract insights from real-world healthcare data, including claims, eligibility, provider, and utilization datasets
Communicate your findings through visual storytelling, dashboards, and presentations tailored for both technical and business stakeholders
Contribute to high-impact projects that directly support better patient outcomes, operational efficiency, and cost containment
Strengthen your ability to explain technical concepts in the context of business needs.
Qualification
Required
Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Public Health, Health Informatics, or a related field
Completed at least one course or equivalent hands-on experience in: Programming (Python, R, Java, C++, MATLAB, etc.)
Completed at least one course or equivalent hands-on experience in: Applied statistics, linear algebra, and/or calculus
Are curious, self-driven, and motivated to solve problems that impact millions of members and providers
Enjoy working in collaborative, cross-functional teams (e.g., with Actuarial, Provider Relations, and IT)
Are comfortable programming in Python, R, or similar languages and using SQL for data querying and Tableau (or similar) for data visualization.
Understand foundational math concepts in statistics, linear algebra, and calculus, and are excited to apply them in a healthcare setting
Preferred
Have experience working with healthcare or insurance-related data (preferred but not required)
Familiarity with healthcare data (e.g., CDT codes, claims formats, or EDI standards) or cloud tools (e.g., AWS, GCP) is a plus
