ALLETE is an energy company with businesses focused on clean energy, utilities, and transmission infrastructure. The Business Intelligence Intern will support Minnesota Power’s Business Intelligence team by developing reporting and analytics solutions, assisting with data engineering and modeling, analyzing business data, and contributing to data quality and system improvement initiatives.
This internship will provide hands-on experience within Minnesota Power’s Business Intelligence team. The intern will have opportunities to learn and contribute by:
Developing practical skills in Microsoft Fabric and Power BI while supporting the design, development, and maintenance of enterprise reporting and analytics solutions
Gaining experience with data engineering and analytics processes by assisting with data ingestion, transformation, and modeling using SQL, lakehouses, and semantic models within Microsoft Fabric
Learning how business data is used to drive decision-making by supporting analyses that identify Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), trends, risks, and actionable insights
Building an understanding of data quality management by helping develop automated solutions to identify, track, and communicate data integrity issues
Exploring analytics best practices and emerging technologies while contributing to data, analytics, and system improvement initiatives across the organization
Collaborating with experienced professionals to strengthen technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills in a real-world environment
Demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills, with an interest in sharing ideas, asking questions, and collaborating effectively with team members
Have strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a curiosity for learning about the utility industry and the flexibility to adapt to evolving projects, priorities, and challenges
This internship will be reporting in person to Duluth, MN for the duration of the internship
The anticipated duration of this role is from May/June 2027 through May 2028. Candidates may have the opportunity to start as early as February 2027 and continue through graduation, subject to business needs and availability
The internship will be full time during summer and breaks and part-time (16-20 hours per week) during the school year
ALLETE will comply with college requirements
Hours and duration may be subject to change based on company needs
Qualification
Required
Must be currently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program in Business/Data Analytics, Mathematics, Data Science, Computer Science, or other STEM-focused degree program, with an expected graduation date between May 2028 and June 2029
Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States for the duration of the internship
Demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills, with an interest in sharing ideas, asking questions, and collaborating effectively with team members
Have strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a curiosity for learning about the utility industry and the flexibility to adapt to evolving projects, priorities, and challenges
