Leidos is seeking a motivated and talented Data Science Intern to join their team on-site at Eglin AFB, FL. This internship offers a unique opportunity to contribute to system-of-systems interoperability assessments and advance data-centricity initiatives while working alongside experienced data scientists and engineers.
Assist in developing and implementing data processing pipelines to ingest, clean, and transform data from diverse sources, including sensors, Command and Control (C2) systems, weapon systems, GPS trackers, and observer logs.
Support the extraction of key events and parameters from raw data to reconstruct operational sequences describing system performance during critical scenarios (e.g., threat detection, engagement, and mitigation).
Contribute to the development and implementation of algorithms for event recognition, anomaly detection, and data correction.
Assist in creating methods for correlating information across disparate systems with different data representations.
Support data quality and governance processes to ensure data integrity and reliability.
Collaborate with data engineers to learn about building scalable and robust data infrastructures on cloud platforms.
Work closely with subject matter experts to understand mission requirements and translate them into data-driven solutions.
Participate in code reviews, documentation, and knowledge sharing within the team.
Contribute to research and development efforts to explore new data science techniques and technologies relevant to CJADC2.
Complete assigned tasks and projects under the guidance of senior team members.
Qualification
Required
Must be a U.S. Citizen.
Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance.
Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field.
Familiarity with at least one data scripting language (Python or R).
Basic understanding of data science libraries (e.g., pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn, matplotlib).
Familiarity with relational databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL).
Professional writing and oral presentation skills, MS Office proficiency.
Preferred
Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, matplotlib).
Coursework or projects involving machine learning, statistical modeling, or data mining.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Passion for learning and contributing to innovative solutions.
Familiarity with virtual computing environments (Azure preferred) and modern tech stacks.
