The City of Baltimore is seeking a Data Science & Analytics Intern to support the BCIT Enterprise Applications team. The intern will assist with data analysis, reporting, and monitoring activities related to the City's enterprise systems, providing hands-on experience with enterprise technology and data analytics.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with analyzing system and integration data to identify trends, patterns, and potential issues
  • Support development of reports and dashboards used by BCIT teams to monitor system performance
  • Review system logs and data files to help identify data quality issues or processing errors
  • Assist with data visualization using tools such as Power BI, Excel, or similar reporting platforms
  • Work with team members to document data processes and reporting workflows
  • Support research and testing of tools that can improve analytics and reporting capabilities
  • Participate in team meetings and present findings from data analysis activities

Qualification

Required

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Technology, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field
  • Basic experience with programming languages such as Python or SQL
  • Familiarity with data analysis tools such as Excel, Power BI, Tableau, or similar tools
  • Interest in data analytics, enterprise systems, and technology operations
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Currently attend a Maryland high school as a junior/senior
  • Currently attend a Maryland higher education institution
  • Graduated from a Maryland high school, but currently attend a non-Maryland higher education institution
  • Graduated from a Maryland high school, and is currently enrolled or graduated from a career technical training program
  • Basic knowledge of data analysis concepts and methods
  • Familiarity with programming or scripting languages such as Python, SQL, or R
  • Ability to work with large datasets and identify patterns or trends
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to communicate technical information clearly in written and verbal form
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment

Preferred

  • Experience with Microsoft Excel or data visualization tools is preferred
