Allstate’s Arity is hiring a Data Science Intern for its Core Telematics team. The intern will analyze sensor and driving-event data, prototype models, and present findings to help improve understanding of the driving experience.

Responsibilities

Conduct exploratory data analysis and data cleaning techniques on large-scale sensor datasets to identify patterns, trends, labels, and data quality issues
Build clear visualizations and summaries that communicate findings to both technical and non-technical audiences
Prototype and evaluate models for detecting patterns or events in sensor data
Contribute clean, well-documented code and participate in the code review process alongside data scientists and engineers
Document methodology, findings, and recommendations in Confluence for the broader team

Qualification

Required

Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Physics, Engineering, or a related quantitative field
Proficiency in Python (e.g. pandas, numpy) for data analysis and manipulation
Familiarity with data visualization tools (e.g. Matplotlib, Plotly, Folium)
Foundational understanding of statistics and exploratory data analysis techniques
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with comfort working through ambiguous, real-world data
Critical thinking and intellectual curiosity, with a drive to dig into open-ended problems and ask good questions
Clear written and verbal communication skills for presenting technical work

Preferred

Rising Junior or Senior
Coursework or project experience with time-series or sensor data
Working knowledge of SQL for querying large datasets
Exposure to machine learning concepts/libraries (e.g. scikit-learn, TensorFlow)
Experience with Git or other version control in a collaborative setting
Familiarity with big data tools (e.g. PySpark) or geospatial data is a plus
