Oaktree Capital Management is a leader among global investment managers specializing in alternative investments. They are seeking a summer intern to develop and enhance quantitative models that support portfolio construction, investment research, and risk management.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build robust quantitative models to support portfolio construction, risk analytics, and investment research.
  • Develop and automate data pipelines and analytical processes using Python, SQL, and modern data engineering technologies.
  • Explore opportunities to incorporate advanced analytical techniques, including AI-driven automation, to streamline workflows and enhance data interpretation.
  • Collaborate with data engineers, investment professionals, and technology teams to implement scalable modeling and automation solutions.
  • Evaluate new datasets, tools, and external data providers to enhance Oaktree’s investment process.
  • Document and communicate technical concepts, model methodologies, and analytical insights to both technical and non-technical stakeholders across the firm.

Qualification

Required

  • Exceptional analytical and quantitative skills, with strong problem-solving capabilities.
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Python and SQL.
  • Familiarity with databases, data modeling, and statistical methods.
  • Experience with scientific computing and machine learning frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow, scikit-learn).
  • Proficiency with data visualization tools such as Power BI or Tableau.
  • Exposure to fixed income securities and a foundational understanding of financial instruments and markets.
  • Curiosity, initiative, and a strong desire to develop new technical and analytical capabilities.
  • Degree in engineering, computer science, financial engineering, operations research, or a related quantitative discipline.
  • Self-starter with a demonstrated ability to take initiative.
  • Responsible, dedicated, and committed to producing high-quality work.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Able to work effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Team-oriented, with high levels of integrity and professionalism.
  • Able to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree with a high GPA from a university or college.

Preferred

  • Knowledge of cloud environments (AWS, Azure) is a plus.
